New arrival - Fritz Hansen "Golden Era" range

Named after the golden era of design, the 1950's and 60's, the Golden Era range includes Arne Jacobsen's Egg and Swan chairs. Using new fabrics and finishes, the new versions of these classic chairs are designed to have a softer, more neutral effect. The chairs are upholstered in sand coloured Steelcut Trio, a woven fabric made by Kvadrat and the seat pads are covered in a luxurious grey velvet. The bases are finished in soft grey to match.

Also included in the Golden Era range is the Lily chair. Another Arne Jacobsen creation, the Lily was designed in 1968 for the Danish National bank in Copenhagen and is, essentially, a variant of his famous Series 7 chair. The Lily became unpopular in the late 1970's and was dropped from the Fritz Hansen collection. The new version continues the softer theme of the Golden Era range  with a dark chocolate brown shell and chromed legs. The Lily chair is an example of how Arne Jacobsen was passionate about working with plywood, a strong and flexible material which is, in the hands of a gifted designer like Jacobsen, capable of being formed into complex shapes.  The chair shell is made up of 5 layers of wood, each cut with the grain running in a diferent direction and two layers of woven cotton. This enables the chair to have its delicate narrow waist whilst retaining flexibility and strength.
